Bubonic Plague called Dysentery

Couple days ago, few of my friends were sick because of diarrhea, for a couple of days. But after they went to see doctor, the doctor told them that they were having a disease called dysentery. Some people might called dysentery was just a mild disease, but if it not treated well, it can be fatal and will end up to death.

A legendary hero, a Saint who led the 7th and 8th Crusades, King of France, St. Louis IX was believed to have died from this bubonic plague, which called dysentery. King Louis IX died of the plague outside the walls of Tunis (Aug. 25, 1270), when he tried to capture the city of Tunis, Tunisia.

So, What is this Bubonic Plague called Dysentery?

Dysentery is a painful inflammation on the large intestine, it's usually accompanied by severe diarrhea. The principal types are amebic dysentery and bacillary dysentery.

Amebic Dysentery is caused by the ameba Endamoeba histolytica. The majority of persons infected with E. histolytica manifest no symptoms, or discomfort. They are called carriers because, although not apperently ill, they may transmit the disease to the others, through their infected feces.

In some cases may have mild indigestion and a slight fever. Weakness, nausea, vomitting, and abdominal cramps are usually present. Severe untreated cases may be fatal. However, it can be treated readily through the use of various medications, including diodoquine, oxytetracycline, and carbarsone. The prevention of infection can be accomplished by sanitary disposal of human waste, control of food and water supplies, also early detection and treatment of carriers.

Bacillary Dysentery is caused by infection with bacteria of the genus Shigella. Epidemics are likely to occur where conditions are crowded and unsanitary. The disease has played an important role in military history. The differs from the amebic form in that most cases develop rapidly, display symptoms consisting of violent, often bloody, diarrhea, fever, chills, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomitting.

5 or more bowel movements an hour are not uncommon during the 1st day, and dehydration may result. Fluids must be administrated to replace those that are lost. In severe cases, solutions containing sodium and potassium are introduced through the veins. In milder infections, symptoms may be limited to 1 or 2 days of mild diarrhea. Bacillary dysentery is not ordinarily fatal. The preventive techniques used in amebic dysentery also apply to the bacillary form.

Benefits of Breastfeeding for Mother and Infant Health

Living in the modern world with everything are so practical and instant, impact on people's point of view, and their lifestyles. In order to fulfill her own needs for lifestyle, increasing family income, or to support her husband, a mother then became a career woman. They sometimes overlook the benefits of breastfeeding, or do a nursing career in their own home.

Best career for a woman is to become a housewife, because behind a successful man, there's an amazing woman.

I guess the term above is a long time history. Nowadays, women and men are equal in positions. Women can do what men do, even to some jobs that not all men can't do. Too many very happy singles career women in Japan and Singapore, are made both countries low on birth rate.

Most of career women who gave birth, only got a small leave of absence for a maximum of 1-3 months. With 1-3 months on leave, they often not used it optimally. Most of them were too lazy to breastfeed their babies. A baby blues syndrom often infected on a lazy mother.

They choose practical way by giving their children a cow or soya formula milk, and hired a nanny. Though the period of leave should be utilized by breastfeeding, and nursing her baby alone.

Why should you suffer carrying your baby for 9 months, if in the end, your child called the nanny as a mother?

Generally, a breastfeeding initiation is started 15 minutes after a baby born. Breastfeeding should be exclusively for 3 to 6 months, because of age 0 to 6 months are infant's golden ages. At the age which a baby's growth required essential nutrients for its body resistance. All of them contained in all mothers breast milk, not only from baby's own mother. If a mother can not breastfeed her own baby due to some reasons, there're no reasons to give their babies a formula milk derived from animals.

Son of man must be fed on a human rather than animal milk.

A baby who consumed breast milk would be more immune to diseases, like pneumonia, diarrhea, and cancer. An exclusive breastfeeding is also proven to suppress an inherited allergy, cause by genetic. Infant allergy is widely occurred in children younger than 2 years, especially under 3 months. For a mother, the benefits of breastfeeding beside to prevent breast cancer are, minimizing the possibility of a mother suffering from diabetes, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis.

Based on my own experience, my wife gave both my children an exclusive breastfeeding. For my elder daughter, it was until her aged 12 months, but for her younger brother, it was until my son aged 2 years old. Though my wife milk were no longer an exclusive anymore, and also useful for my son nutrients needs. Well, I guess you know why do boys like it most, don't you?

Bacterial Infections

Bacteria are important in the production of cheese, butter, yoghurt, sour cream, sauerkraut, pickles, and vinegar. Bacteria are used to process linen and to soften animal hides. Certain antibiotic drugs are obtained from bacteria. The important industrial solvents, acetone, and butyl alcohol are produced by bacterial fermentations.

The primitive microscopic organisms belonging to the lowest division of the plant kingdom, are widely distributed in nature. Bacteria are being found in soil, air, water, on plants and animals. Bacteria exist in environments where few other life forms can maintain themselves, such as hot springs where the temperature reaches 180 °F (82 °C), in the Antarctic Ocean, and in deep oceanic waters where they live under pressures of thousands of pounds per square inch.

Despite their extremely important role to other living organisms and the cycle of organic processes, they are also responsible for many plant, animal, and human diseases. Few events in the history of mankind have been as devastating as the Black Death, or bubonic plague, which swept through Europe in the 14th century (1348 to 1350), killing approximately 25 million people, 30–60 percent of Europe's population. Physicians have been identified a host of ailments as being caused by bacteria, including syphilis, typhoid fever, diphtheria, scarlet fever, diarrhea, and many other.

Exposure to pathogenic (disease-producing) bacteria doesn't guarantee that disease will result. This depends upon particular bacteria involved, the number of organisms that enter the body, and the ability of the body to fight the infection (immunity). Some bacteria are everyday inhabitants of the skin and the intestinal tract. As long as they remain confined to these places they are harmless, however, should they gain entrance to other parts of the body, they are capable of producing serious diseases. Infections of the kidneys (pyelonephiritis) or bladder (cystitis) are caused by bacteria that have escaped from intestinal tract.

Bacteria may produced the symptoms of disease through the effects of bacterial poisons (toxins). These substances may be secreted by the bacteria (exotoxins), or be built into the structure of the bacterial cell (endotoxins). The endotoxins are liberated only upon the death of the cell.

Bacteria are selective in the parts of the body that they choose to invade. The staphylococci infect the skin, producing boils and acne. The streptococci attack the throat. Tuberculosis and pneumonia are caused by organisms that settle in the lungs. Meningitis, an infections of the tissues surrounding the brain, is caused by various organisms, including the meningococcus, pneumococcus, streptococcus, and staphylococcus.

Bacterial endocarditis, bacterial infection of the lining of the heart, particularly of the heart valves. It usually appears in anyone who have previously had rheumatic or congenital heart disease. Treatment is with antibiotic drugs and depends upon the proper identification of the infecting bacteria. Penicilin-resistant organisms may be responsible in some cases and require special selection of antibiotics.

Diseases such as diptheria, tetanus, meningitis, and typhoid can be prevented by immunization, and many other bacterial diseases can be treated by antibiotic drugs. Tuberculosis patients must daily consume of antibiotic drugs for 6 month treatment. Most death from bacterial infections are caused by organisms that have become resistant to the action of antibiotics.

What is Allergy?

An abnormal response to certain substances, which may cause asthma, hay fever, and other allergic disease. The body may react to the presence of certain materials (allergens), such as animal and plant products, by producing substances called antibodies. When the same material enters the body a second time, a reaction ensues between this substances and the antibodies.

When the reaction occurs in the skin, the escape of fluid and the contraction of the smooth muscles around the hair follicles produce the swellings seen in hives. When it occurs in the nose, collections of fluid in the mucous membranes cause the familiar symptoms of hay fever. An allergic reaction in the air passages (the bronchioles) produces asthma, and such a reaction in the intestines results in cramps and diarrhea.

4 Ways in which Allergens Enter The Human Body

Airborne Allergens
Such substances include the wind-carried pollens of ragweeds, grasses, and trees. Also the seeds of molds that grow on grains, insect dust, the dandruff of dogs or horses, and house dust. These irritants may affect the nose, causing sneezing, discharges, and blocking of the nasal passages. If the allergy is caused by seasonal allergens, such as pollen, molds, and insect dust, it's called hay fever.

If the irritant is present throughout the year, the allergy is termed perennial allergic rhinitis. Allergic asthma is a more serious ailment. It develops when the air passages are sensitive to the airborne allergens. The allergic reaction causes a spasm of the muscles of the bronchioles and stimulates the production of thick mucus.

The consequent narrowing and blocking of the air passages make breathing difficult. Although most cases asthma are allergic in nature, some may be caused by infection or heart disease. In many instances the cause is unknown.

Skin Contact with Allergens
An allergic skin inflammation (contact dermatitis) can be caused by contact with a number of substances. These include plants (poison ivy, poison oak, primrose, ragweed), dyes (used on fur and clothing), metals (mercury in antiseptics, and nickel-containing jewelry), nail polish, penicillin, sulfa drugs, and plastics.

Foods and Drugs
Almost any type of allergy can be produced by food. These type include asthma, skin conditions (hives and eczema), gastrointestinal complaints involving cramps, stomach gas, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Drugs are also frequent source of allergy. Some types of anemia (deficiency of red blood cells), leukopenia (deficiency of white blood cells), or thrombocytopenia (deficiency of blood platelets) may caused by drug allergy. Injected drugs are more likely to produce an allergy than those taken by mouth.

Serum sickness is an allergic that occasionally follows the injection of penicillin or serum prepared from animals. The reaction usually develops several days after the injection. It consists of hives, giant swellings, inflammation of the joints, and fever.

Insect Stings
Allergic reactions from the stings of bees, wasps, and hornets are common. The oldest recorded case of this type is found in the hieroglypic account on the tomb of King Menes of Egypt, which tells of his death from the sting of a hornet in 2641 BC.

How to Overcome Diarrhea Without any Medicines

Diarrhea is one of the silent killer. Diarrhea occurs as a result of bacteria or foreign substances (toxic) that attacks the immune system in the gastrointestinal tract. Antibodies in the body reacts to the process of secretion.

Excessive secretion process will lead to dehydration. Acute dehydration can lead to death if not promptly addressed. An easy way to overcome it, based on my experience is :

Drink Water as much as Possible

You may add sugar and salt to your water. It will increase the levels of sodium and glucose to the blood. My experience when diarrhea is to drink a glass of water (300ml) every ten minutes. After spending three glasses of water (approximately a litre), diarrhea I experienced gradually recovering.

Why Water?

Water is a new blood substitute in the body. Blood is the center of the immune system. If Our blood is always new, the antibodies in our body system would be immune from all diseases. Dehydration occurs because the lacks of new blood in Our body.

Therefore, do not always get used to taking medicine. Antibiotics drug, if too often will be able to make the disease resistant to antibodies in our body. Water is the best medicine for all diseases.
