Suffering From Influenza

For a couple of days, I have been sufferred from heavy flu. I never thought before that my last week activities has dropped my stamina. After my aunt's funeral, two days later, I went to my cousin's wedding at Malang. On the way to Malang with my wife by motor bike, our journey was stopped due to heavy rain at Lawang, just about 20 Kms from the destination.

We stucked from a store waiting for the rain to stop. We continued our journey with small drops of rain in our head, but not for a km we stopped again due to heavier rain. Finally, the rain did stop after a long wait at a gas station. The journey that normally takes an hour and half, we took until 3 hours.

It has been a month since last rainfall in my own city of Sidoarjo, that only for 20 minutes. The hot temperature in Sidoarjo everyday is 35 °C (95 °F), so the rain in Lawang was cooled our body. That is the main reason with the flu I was getting.

What is Influenza?

Influenza, an infectious disease caused by a virus of the influenza group. Influenza epidemics have been known since ancient times. An extensive world wide outbreak occurred in 1918-19, resulting in the death of an estimated twenty million people.

There are three distinct influenza virus types, A, B, and C.

• Influenza A
  It occurs in epidemic cycles every 2 - 4 years. The pandemic of Asian flu in 1957 was caused by a variant of the A virus. The 1968 epidemic of the so called Hong Kong Flu was a new A virus. The outlook was relatively mild compared with those of 1957 and 1968.
• Influenza B
  The epidemics occur every 4 - 6 years. Influenza B develops slower than Influenza A, but faster than Influenza C.
• Influenza C
  Rarely produces disease, but can be severe and can cause local epidemics. It usually causes mild disease in children.

The continued struggle with recurring epidemics reflects the ability of the virus to change. The influenza virus probably enters the body through inhalation of droplets discharged from the mouth, or nose of infected person.

After an incubation period of one or two days, the illness appears suddenly with chills, fever, pain behind the eyes, headache, lassitude, prostration, and severe muscular pains. There may also be coughing, congestion of the eyes, sneezing, or bleeding from the nose.

A fairly high fever usually persists for two to three days. The patient ordinarily recovers within a week, but fatigue, depression, and a tendency to perspire easily may persist for one to two weeks. The influenza infection is ordinarily not fatal itself, but death may occur from complications, particularly bacterial pneumonia. The use of antibiotics has decreased deaths from such infections.

Influenza vaccines can prevent illness in about 70% of those immunized. The virus which makes up the vaccine is grown in chick embryos, and then inactivated by formalin. People suffering from heart disease, chronic lung problems, and diabetes should be immunized each winter. But for those who allergic to egg, should not receive the vaccine.

There are no drugs that can cure influenza. Amantadine hydrochloride is sometimes used, along with time honored bed rest, to relieve symptoms. Amantadine does not kill the virus or prevent other person from becoming infected, and it should not be given to children.

The Natural Way of Treatment

Despite of no drugs that can cure influenza, you may relieve the symptoms by using several ways below:

Having Good Rest
Having a good rest does not mean you have to be on a bed for days. You could still do many activities, including go to work like I did.

Ask yourself? Have you ever been hospitalized? What do you do when you are hospitalized for a few days? What difference does it make if you do this when being treated in your own home?

Sleep may activate the immune system, and having good rest will make our body more comfortable, and boost immunity against diseases. The more quality of sleeping that you have, the more stamina you wil gain. The more stamina your body has, will relieve the influenza symptoms.

Multi-Vitamins
Some doctors would not prescribe vitamins along with antibiotics. It may because your medical records, and some patients with high hypertension are not allowed on taking multi-vitamins. Multi-vitamins might improve your stamina despite all that you did not get from your foods.

Garlic
Based on my previous post about garlic, it has been used as natural stamina booster since many years ago. And garlic also has been used to treat fatigue, preventing and fighting the common cold.

Sunbathe
It is not for intention to get a suntan, but having direct sunlight will get your body more natural vitamin from the Sun. As you know, Sun is the source of vitamin D, especially the Sun light before 9 am. After the first 3 hours in the morning, the Sun light will only burn your skin.

Hodgkin's Disease

Hodgkin's disease, disease of unknown origin characterized by enlargement of the lymph glands. Many authorities, including American Cancer Society, consider it to be a form of cancer while others argue that an infection is responsible.

Hodgkin's disease which also known as Hodgkin lymphoma, was named after Thomas Hodgkin, an English physician, in 1832. Thomas Hodgkin was considered to be one of the most prominent pathologists of his time, and a pioneer in preventive medicine.

Manifestations of The Hodgkin's Disease

The disease attacks males more frequently than females, and may appear at any age, young adults are often affected. The lymph glands of the neck are usually involved first, undergoing a painless enlargement.

Later the lymph glands under the arms, in the groin, in the chest, and abdomen enlarge. General symptoms include loss of appetite and weight, fatigue, night sweats, intermittent fever, and anemia.

Enlargement of the lymph nodes in the chest with pressure on the surrounding tissues may produce cough, difficulty in breathing, and chest pain.

Expansion of the lymph nodes which lie on the rear wall of the abdomen may compress the contents of the abdomen, displacing one or both kidneys. Other manifestations of the disease may be found in the lungs, bones, nervous system, and skin.

The spleen and liver are often enlarged. In some patients, itching may be the major complaint. A curious unexplained phenomenon in Hodgkin's disease is the appearance of pain, in the involved areas following consumption of alcohol.

The Treatment

The disease may be treated with radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The choice of treatment depending on the age and sex of the patient, the stage, and histological subtype of the disease.

X-ray (radiation) therapy is the preferred treatment, and may relieve symptoms for weeks, months, or years. Nitrogen mustard has also proved useful. Although these and other methods of treatment may temporarily improve the patient's condition, they do not cure the disease. Despite this, some patients with Hodgkin's disease may survive for as long as twenty years.

Hansen's Disease

Hansen's disease, or known as leprosy, a chronic infectious disease, which involves primarily the skin and the peripheral nerves. Altough it's primarily a tropical disease, it has occurred as far North as Norway and Iceland.

The leprosy bacterium was first describe by the Norwegian physician, G. Armauer Hansen, in 1874. Its structure and characteristics is similar to the organism which causes tuberculosis. The bacteria are believed to be transmitted by direct contact.

Though it's not easily spread, but more than 5% of persons married to a person suffering from leprosy will become infected with the disease. The average period of incubation is five years or more.

Body Disturbances

The disturbances seen in leprosy are extremely variable. Skin is usually affected early while nerve damage appears later. There are many disabling phenomena result from nerve damage rather than infection.

The ulcers of the feet and the fingers are caused by damage resulting from of the infection along the nerves of the extremities. Facial disfigurement is seen only in advanced stages, when the infection is untreated.

Skin lesions vary from simple spots to thick infiltrations and nodule formation. The severity of the infections depends upon the type of leprosy. The most severe cases are caused by the lepromatous, which progresses steadily, and involves infiltration of the skin, producing nodular lesions.

The milder tuberculoid form usually improves spontaneously. In many instances, tuberculoid leprosy would be an unimportant skin condition were it not for the associated nerve involvement.

Leprosy is rarely fatal in itself. Death, when it occurs, usually results from complications, or a concurrent illness. The most serious complications are involvement of the nose and throat, which accompanies the advance disease. Trophic ulcerations of the feet with secondary infection, osteomyelitis (bone infection), and lesions of the inner structures of the eyes, which leads to blindness.

The Treatment

Since 1941, a group of drugs, called sulfones, which are related chemically to sulfonamides, have been widely used in the treatment of leprosy. Sulfones are highly effective in the milder types. Although they do not cure the lepromatous types, serious complications are usually prevented.

Because the similarity of the bacillus which caused leprosy, the sulfones were also tested against tuberculosis, but without success. Sulfones do not destroy, but surpress the leprosy bacillus, so that the patient's own defenses slowly overcome the disease.

Treatment failures are observed in approximately 5% of the cases, resulting from the development of drug-resistance by the leprosy bacteria. Although the sulfones act slowly, no better agents have been developed for control of leprosy.

Leprosy is being treated today with large-scale outpatient treatment programs. The U.S. operates a specialized hospital for the treatment of leprosy at Carville, La., and maintains clinics at hospitals, in New Orleans and San Francisco. Also two institutions in the state of Hawaii, to conduct a continuous program for the care of patients, and the control of spread of the disease.

Water Therapy Scam?

My friend, Joko felt like vomiting after drinking 1.5 litres of water every morning. He complained to me, the one who had suggested him on doing water therapy.

I asked him, Since when did you do this therapy?.

Since I suffered from rheumatic and excess uric acid disease, about 3 months ago, answered Joko.

You are doing the water therapy for 3 months? How do you feel now?, I said to him.

I'm feeling much better now, the rheumatic that I'd suffered before, I've never experinced anymore, said Joko. But, everytime I finished drinking 1.5 litres of water, I felt like vomiting, added Joko.

You should not continue on doing the water therapy, if you had felt much better. You only keep drinking a glass of water after waking up, and drink when you are thirsty, I answered. What you should keep in mind, is the amount of water that you must consume in a day, beside other liquids you get from your foods, to avoid your body of getting dehydration, I added.

I never thought that Joko was actually doing exactly as I had told him 3 months ago, because lots of people had been considered water therapy as just hoax, and nothing but a scam.

People who considered water therapy was just a scam, are those who have not actually make a practice of doing the therapy, or they might have used the wrong steps.

The Laughing Cons

I arrived to this health article on Ask A Raffles Doctor, titled Is water therapy harmful to the body?, which answered by Dr. Stanley Liew Choon Fong, Specialist in Endocrinology, Raffles Hospital. Here is what I quoted from the article:

The concept that a large amount of water consumed in the morning can cleanse the bowel may be over simplistic. Most of the water we drink is absorbed in the gut, and then used by the cells in our body. The kidneys would excrete the excess water. So, very little water is left behind in the gut to clean the bowel. Otherwise, we would all be having diarrhoea after drinking a large amount of water.

There is no scientific evidence that water therapy has any specific benefits to people with hypertension or diabetes. In fact, healthy diet, regular exercise and keeping body weight in the healthy range are the best lifestyle modifications for people with hypertension and diabetes.

The one that made me laugh was the statement ...having diarrhoea after drinking a large amount of water. The statement was contrary with my previous blog post, based on my own experience to overcome diarrhea without any medicines.

Diarrhea occurs as a result of bacteria or foreign substances (toxic) that attacks the immune system in the gastrointestinal tract. Antibodies in the body reacts to the process of secretion.

Excessive secretion process will lead to dehydration. Acute dehydration can lead to death if not promptly addressed.

How much exactly the water intake in a day?

Here's what I quoted from American Cancer Society, within the article Hydrotherapy, which the page is now no longer existed or indexed by web archive:

The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academies of Science reports that Adequate Intake (AI) of water is around 3.7 liters per day for adult men (over 18 years), and about 2.7 liters for adult women. For pregnant women, daily intake is about 3 liters, and 3.8 for nursing women. A liter is a little more than a quart, so for men, this translates to nearly 4 quarts a day. But this amount of water includes all the liquid in your food and drinks, not just plain water intake.

But.., at the bottom of the article..

Drinking very large amounts of water over short periods of time can lead to serious mineral imbalances in the blood, and death from water intoxication.

The statement above had made Usha Paana Chikitsa, the dawn water treatment, as hoax, or just a scam.

Usha paana chikitsa, the dawn water treatment, is not good if continued for long. The chikitsa (treatment) is used only in particular diseases and conditions, in which not all people should start drinking 1.5 litres of water early in the morning.

So, water therapy is just for alternative medication, and not for daily habits. Your water intake should only be to fulfil your thirst. Drink only when you are thirsty! All things that are taken excessively might even turn out to be negative, and getting unbalanced nutritions to our body. Notice on your pee! If it's clear, means your body is well hydrate.

Humans are more than 50% water and die in a few days without it. Space scientists eagerly search dry planets for traces of water. Nephrologists spend most of their time thinking and worrying about urine, which is mostly water.

When the heart fails, we drown from too much water. Now we are confronted by the bizarre prospect that water is the cure for hereditary diseases that grotesquely bloat the kidneys with … water.

New Hope for Cancer Patients

Warsito wears the brain activity scanner. He hold on his left hand the breast activity scanner. The brain cancer electro capacitive therapy, and breast cancer electro capacitive therapy are worn by the doll.

The successful discovery of cancer-buster devices have brought new hope for all cancer patients as new alternative methods of treatment. The cancer-buster devices were created by CTECH Labs (Center for Tomography Research Laboratory) Edwar Technology.

The Founder Scientist

Warsito Purwo Taruno, founder of CTECH Labs, a Professor of Medical Physics, University of Indonesia, Jakarta, and special staff of the Minister for Research and Technology. Warsito earned his doctorate from Shizuoka University, Japan, in 1997. ECVT system was his final project as a Bachelor degree student at Shizuoka University, Japan, in 1991. At that moment, he was still developing a tomographic ultrasound which aims to detect concentration of gases and particles in the multi fuse reactor.

Warsito was a former Professor at Ohio State University in 2001, and become one of 15 leading researchers who are members of Industrial Research Consortium in the US. Back home in 2004, he built CTECH Labs in Tangerang, Banten, and finally invented ECVT (Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography). In 2006, he received a patent for his ECVT invention from the U.S. patent office.

Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography

ECVT, a 4D electric field tomographic technology. Tomography, a form of imaging sectioning, through the use of any kind of penetrating wave, or so called as, object scanning technology without having to touch the object.

Tomography is used in radiology, archaeology, biology, geophysics, oceanography, and many other sciences. 4D interpreted as a 3D of space (Volume) and one D of time, because of the moving object, said Warsito.

This major breakthrough in scanning techniques, as ECVT managed to scan 3D (volumetric) with the fast moving object, has made other tomographic technologies, such as, CT Scan and MRI seem to be ancient. Because, both CT Scan and MRI, are simply generated 2D or 3D image of static object.

The Cancer-Buster

In 2010, Warsito with his CTECH teams have successfully build 4 cancer-buster devices, which are brain activity scanner, breast activity scanner, brain cancer electro capacitive therapy, and breast cancer electro capacitive therapy.

Brain activity scanner was made since June 2010. The device works by studying human brain activity in 3D. Its shape is similar to helmet with dozens of holes connector, which connected to a data acquisition station, and monitored into a computer. The device can detect the presence of cancer cells in the brain. With this device, it can also be seen how severe the patient suffered from brain cancer, said Warsito.

Meanwhile, the breast activity scanner was created in September 2010. To some extent, the two devices have the same purposes, ie, detect the presence of cancer cells in the body.

In addition to above two devices, Warsito completed in making of brain cancer capacitive electro therapy and breast cancer capacitive electro therapy. The devices are based on electrostatic waves using battery power. Both devices are proven to kill cancer cells to completion in just 2 months.

The Human Test

Warsito had already proven the devices efficacy to his sister, Suwarni, who suffered from stage IV breast cancer. He applied the breast cancer capacitive electro therapy to his sister. The device shape is similar to a bra, containing static electricity on the inside. The black bra is connected with a battery that can be recharge. With an intention to make it just like a bra for easy to use, said Warsito.

Warsito's sister was wearing the bra for 24/7 everyday. By the first week, it had shown side effects from using the device. However, the effects were not painfully as chemotherapy. Her sister felt that her sweat was very slimy and smelly. Urine and feces had even more foul smelling. According to Warsito, it indicates that cancer cells were being issued.

The stench was coming from dead cancer cells and excreted through urine, sweat and feces. But the patient would not feel any pain, just chills, said Warsito. After a month of usage, lab test results stated that her sister's cancer was negative, and doctor claimed her sister was cleared from any cancer cells.

The brain cancer electro capacitive therapy device was testing on 21 years old young man, who suffered from advanced stage brain cancer. The basic material used is similar to breast cancer capacitive electro therapy. However, the shape is adjusted with a head, and looks like a head protector, or head ban. Similar to the methods applied to his sister, the young man wore the head ban for a month.

Because the device was worn on the head, the young man felt heat in his head. In the three days of the initial use of the device, the young man's level of emotions were increased. Moreover, the same symptoms as just the other devices were also appeared, smelly sweat, urine and feces.

According to Warsito, before the test, the young man was initially suffered from total paralysis. He could not get out of bed, could not even swallow food. Cancer cells have spread to the base area of his brain. However, after a week of using the device, the young man was able to get out of bed and move his arms and legs. By 2 full months of usage, the young man had been declared cured.

Pros and Cons

NASA used the ECVT technology to scan the wall of space shuttle. The technology makes it possible to see through the pile of material in the outer wall of the shuttle. In Indonesia, Warsito had made a device called Sona CT Scanner, the ultrasonic scanner to check the wall of the high pressure gas cylinders that used in Trans Jakarta bus.

Indonesian oncologists and doctors were not just believed that by using Warsito's devices, cancer can be totally cured. The invention was not qualified to be tested on human, said Walta Gautama, a cancer specialist doctor of Dharmais Hospital.

According to Walta, it must undergo some clinical trials and test cases. After that, a presentation in front of oncologists, medical devices testing, cancer hit phase testing, and animal testing. Then it will be qualified to be tested on human.

Meanwhile, in terms of radiology, the working system of Warsito's cancer-buster bra is well appreciated and can be explained scientifically. It really makes sense and reasonable to be applied outside the world of science, said Gede Bayu Suparta, radiologist, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.

According to Gede, the principle of electricity which generates electromagnetic waves can be arranged, so that the electromagnetic produces desirable resonance frequency, that is the main target of cancer cells. Electric wave is not dangerous, but it can change the structure of atom, said Gede. Warsito himself admits, that cancer-buster bra has not been tested on animals.

How To Get Rid of Head Lice Naturally

It had been for about a month, my 6 years old daughter was haunted by her itchy hair. Two weeks ago, my wife discovered that it was head lice grew in my daughter's hair. All of my family's member then also got infected, me, my wife, and my 4 years old son.

Because my wife was going to use anti mosquitoes lotion to put on my daughter's hair, I remember a story when I was at young age. Story about 10 years old girl that suddenly died, shortly after using anti mosquitoes spray to get rid of her head lice. I then forbade my wife to use the lotion, and started to googling all natural treatment for head lice in the internet.

What do I got? Most informations I got in the top page of my Google result, were more than useless informations, because most of the writers did not experince by himself, only gatherred some informations on the internet. How to treat human head lice has been debated and studied for centuries. That was trully the fact of my Google result's conclusion.

What is Louse?

According to book 11 page 115 of Encyclopedia International by Clarence J. Hylander. Louse, a common name for many species of small, flat-bodied, wingless insects that lead exclusively parasitic lives. The bitting, or chewing, lice of order Mallophaga are mostly external parasites of birds, although a few species parasitize mammals. Lice mouth parts are modified for chewing. They feed on bits of feathers, hair and skin.

Lice are transmitted from one host to another by contact. Occasionally these lice may be picked up by man as a result of handling infested animals, but they do not remain on the human body. Common species are the body louse, Menacanthus stramineus, and the shaft louse, Menopon gallinae, both parasites of chickens.

The sucking lice, of order Anoplura, have mouth parts modified into protrusible needlelike structures that pierce the host organism's skin, and suck its blood. Sucking lice are external parasites of mammals. Included in the order is Pediculus humanus, the human body louse, which infests hair and clothing.

Louse is spread by promiscuous use of combs, brushes, and headgear. Other related species are spread by contact with infested clothing and bedding. Adult human body lice are managed to transmit typhus fever, European relapsing fever, and trench fever (which reached epidemic proportions among soldiers during World War I).

Louse infestations may appear through unhygienic living conditions, especially when there is little opportunity for thorough bathing. But it is possible for you to get infected eventhough you had been already living hygienically. Lice infestations are controlled by dusting affected individual with dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT), and by fumigating or sterilizing their clothing.

Vinegar, Vaseline, and Mayonnaise

I do not recommend you to use it, because many scientists had already doubted about the treatment using above ingredients. I do not dare to apply vinegar to my daughter's hair. Vaseline and mayonnaise to be left on your hair overnight? I laugh instantly after reading the article. Why? You may find hard to remove Vaseline from your children's hair after all night day. Mayonnaise may turn poisonous when it is not refrigerated. Your children may scratch their head while sleeping, and then put their fingers to their mouth.

Garlic

Garlic had been used as an antiseptic, and Louis Pasteur was the first who reported the antibacterial, and antifungal properties of garlic. But I did not get a chance to try it, after my daughter, and my whole family member were finally managed to get rid of head lice using other method.

So, what was my way to get rid of head lice in my family? I only use these 2 products for hair and head scalp treatment:

Minyak Kayu Putih Cap Lang

I was surprised to see above Indonesian original product had already been sold at Amazon.com. I've been used Minyak Kayu Putih from several famous brands in Indonesia since I was a child. Back then my mom used a brand from Cap Gajah in which made by its original factory in Surabaya, East Java.

When my 1st daughter was just a baby, I used a brand from Konicare for Minyak Kayu Putih, and Minyak Telon. No matter what brands you choose, as long as it contains 100% cajuput (Melaleuca leucadendra) oil. The name cajuput is derived from its Indonesian name, kayu putih, which translate in English as white wood.

There are many benefits you might get by using Minyak Kayu Putih, such as, helps to relieve muscle aches, abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, and itching from insect bites.

When I got itching in my head at night, I directly applied several drops of it to my head scalp and back of my neck. Sometimes I found a louse pop out from beneath the back of my neck's skin. When I put the louse on the floor and dropped it with Minyak Kayu Putih, it reacted like the oil was hurting it, and for several minutes, the louse stopped moving and died.

It was such a coincidence that I bought this shampoo last month, in which I never used it before. My family had started to use it for about 2 weeks from now, and after I read its ingredients, it consists of aloe vera and Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil.

Tea tree oil is usually used by applying to the skin for acne, fungal infections of the nail (onychomycosis), lice, scabies, athlete's foot (tinea pedis), and ringworm.
